The Boys’ Brigade has been around for more than 130 years and is part of the boyhood experience of many adults today. Our aim is to develop Christian manliness among boys and our mission is to equip and sustain the boy child, through leadership, training and personal involvement of the boy.
We are an international interdenominational uniformed Christian organization and a member of the Global Fellowship of Christian Youth.
The Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness
The above objective has not been changed. What has changed is how we go about promoting the objective. We recognise that the influences surrounding our young people are not always helpful and that too many lose control at great cost to themselves, their families and the community.
The answer is to catch the energy and enthusiasm of boys and to channel it purposefully. The Boys’ Brigade develops a boy’s awareness of his own community and creates opportunities for service.
How we got here
➀ Inception
Sir William Alexander Smith founded the Boys’ Brigade in Glasgow, Scotland on 4th October 1883 as a Christian youth organization promoting physical, mental, and spiritual development of young boys.
➁ From Scotland to Zambia
The movement quickly spread to other countries, including Zambia. The Boys’ Brigade was introduced to Zambia in the early 1920s by British missionaries who were working in the country.
➂ The Early Years
The Boys’ Brigade in Zambia grew steadily, with various companies established across the country, providing a structured program of Christian education, discipline, and community service.
➃ Here We Are
Today, the Boys’ Brigade in Zambia continues to be an active and influential youth organization, shaping the lives of young people through Christian values, leadership training, and community engagement.

To be a youth organisation of choice which will attract, empower and groom youths into God fearing, responsible and disciplined Christians, ready for service within and outside their communities.
Our Mission
The Boys’ Brigade will care for challenged young people for life through a programme of informal education underpinned by the Christian faith, hence to transform, empower, equip and nature youths and to enable them into God fearing productive, self-reliant and useful members of society.
